![]() The Access Case III is also priced at $64, but is offered all the way back to the iPhone 6-series. ![]() Prices are approximately $64 for the Shell Case II with Micro Dock, available for the iPhone 7 and newer, including the iPhone XS Max (as tested). So if you drop it, it pops open and happens to land screen down, the iPhone is going to take the brunt of the fall with no protection.īoth Nodus cases are offered in a choice of Chestnut Brown, Ebony Black, Dark Teal or Taupe Gray leather. No magnet or strap that keeps it closed when not in use. This case is functional and does offer protection for the iPhone’s display when in a pocket or purse - something shell cases lack. It is also compatible with Qi wireless chargers. It works quite well, and offers the advantage of full access to the iPhone’s ports as well as a slimmer profile than most. This is essentially an adhesive pad that can be cleaned and re-used if you decide to switch cases. The big difference between this case and most portfolio cases is that Nodus uses a “micro suction pad” instead of a plastic frame to hold the iPhone in place. Because the Shell Case II leaves that bottom edge exposed, the gesture is much more fluid.Īccess Case III lives up to its name, and also has room for a few credit cards. By now Nodus has come to populate many best of micro lists both in the United States and abroad (including Bum’s Top Watches of 2020) but for the uninitiated: Nodus watches are assembled and regulated in Los Angeles, California led by two-man duo Wes Kwok and Cullen Chen. I find swiping up requires extra effort in a case that has a bottom lip. It turns out this design is ideal for the X-series iPhones and their new gestures. The ceramic bezel markers are minimal and direct, and come equipped with the traditional Avalon wide sawtooth grooves for easy gripping. It helped make removal easier, left the speakers clear and because the Lightning port was completely unobstructed, even cables with large connectors fit without a problem. The Avalon II also has this dramatic angular undercut towards the caseback making the 43mm wide and 12.5mm thick case look slimmer while on wrist. I always liked that approach for several reasons. The Ring/Silent switch cutout is more generous than with the original, so there was no issue with accessing the switch.Īnd speaking of cutouts, the bottom of the Nodus Shell Case protects the corners of the iPhone but leaves most of the bottom of the device exposed. Despite the magnetic feature, the Shell Case II full supports Qi wireless charging. This system is great for mounting your smartphone upright for easy visual access, such as on a car dashboard. While the original Micro Dock was round, this time around it’s a small strip. ![]() There’s a shielded magnetic mount for the company's Micro Dock III (included). The button covers are leather and an improvement over the original. The Shell Case II is slim and light, easy to pop on and off, and comes wrapped in premium leather. Well done NODUS.The leather on the Nodus Shell Case is only going to get better looking with time. They are solid passionate watch enthusiasts who care about the brand, the customer & the community as a whole. The same cannot be said about ANY major big brand. Here’s the kicker, when you contact Nodus (either by DM, web or email) you’ll inevitably be answered by one of the two owners. Even if the brand disappears, ANY watchmaker can service this piece for decades to come. At $425 US, the above beats any major brand offering, but Wes and Cullen take it that much further and ship the robust & easily serviceable NH35 movement regulated to +/- 10 seconds per day. BUT the sunburst dial is the true star of the show (especially this colourway).Īlso in the box an additional high quality branded quick release leather strap. The mixture of brushed & polished surfaces with chamfered edges & a stepped, domed AR undercoated sapphire crystal complete the visual package. Standard with an excellent 3 hole micro-adjust H-link stainless steel bracelet, solid end links, drilled lugs & a milled clasp. The build quality & finishing on the Nodus Sector Sport are top notch for the price point. Black, silver & glacial dial choices are truly unisex (mine will be passed on to my daughter) & are all equally at home from beach (150m Water Resistance) to the boardroom. It fits virtually any wrist (save for The Incredible Hulk) & will never be too small or too big as style/trends inevitability change. The boys at Nodus totally knocked it out of the park with this one. I admit, the honeymoon is intense right now, but I do not foresee my mind ever being changed. BUT, if you know anyone who is, or (more likely) if you’re looking for a real everyday GADA value proposition look no further than the Nodus Sector Sport. Can a microbrand fulfill a one watch collection? Let’s face it, if you are reading this review, then you’re likely not in that frame of mind.
